Seven Hours

Last night, Natalie slept for seven hours straight!! She woke up a very happy, smiley girl today. I, on the ohter hand, am completely exhausted today. After Natalie slept for about 3 and a half hours, I started waking up at least every half hour to check on her, nervous that something was not right. Thankfully, everything is fine. I'm hoping she has another good sleeping night tonight! Maybe I won't be so nervous this time:)

Natalie Ann

Natalie Ann Sorenson was born on February 1, 2008. Aaron and I instantly fell in love with her and continue to fall more in love with her every day.

My water broke at approximately 2:30 in the afternoon on Januray 31st, at work! I had absolutely no warnings. I had a midwife appointment the day before, but she hadn't even bothered to check my cervix as she said (after Natalie was born), "You looked too good to be going into labor soon." As soon as my water broke, I called Aaron and asked him to meet me at the hospital. His response was, "Why?" I sat there for a few seconds not knowing exactly what to say when Aaron exclaimed, "Are you going into labor?!!!" My eyes immediately teared up and I told him that yes, my water had broke. My good friend Teresa rushed me to the hospital and there I met Aaron. We got checked in and soon my mom and sister were there by my side. I didn't actually start feeling contractions until around 4:00pm. My dear friend, Erin, stopped up as additional labor support. I feel so blessed to have had such amazing support throughout my pregnancy and delivery.

By around 8:00pm, the labor pains were really painful, and at about 9:30pm I asked my mom and sister to leave the room as I didn't want them to see me in so much pain. I asked for an epidural at about 10:30pm. The rest of the labor went very smoothly. Aaron was on awesome support person. I am thankful to have such a wonderful husband! Natalie Ann was born at 2:12 am. Aaron and I were overjoyed to meet our sweet little daughter.

The next few days we spent in the hospital recovering and introducing Natalie to our family and to many of our friends. We are so thankful to have had so much support!

Natalie is now 10 weeks old. She continues to amaze us both every day and already has both of us wrapped around her finger. She has recently began smiling and cooing. She absolutely melts my heart every time she smiles. She's starting to wake up, but I'll post again!

Week 28

Today at my 28 week appointment I took the dreaded glucose challenge, and it was not bad at all!! The orange drink that I had to have was super yummy and the finger prick didn't even hurt (which is amazing because I'm usually deathly afraid of needles). My glucose levels were fine, but my hemoglobin was low. Time for more iron. The baby seems to be doing well. The midwife felt my abdomen and could tell that the baby is already head down, which is awesome as I am super afraid of having a C-section. The midwife told us that it is very rare for a baby to turn upright at this point in pregnancy. The baby's heart rate was 153 bpm. My uterus is measuring a week behind at 27 weeks. I don't think that will change my due date though. The baby now weighs approximately 2.25 pounds and is about 14.8 inches long.

27 Weeks

Well, another busy month has flown by. I haven't checked my blog lately and was shocked to see that we have only 87 days more to go!! This week marks the first week of the third trimester. The baby weighs approximately 2 pounds and the total length is 14.4 inches. The baby can now open and close his/her eyes and sleeps and wakes at regular intervals. (The baby seems to be most active around 3:00 am; I wonder if that will continue after the baby is born.) The baby's brain is very active now as more brain tissue is developing.

I have been feeling pretty good for the most part. I find that I am still very tired and have a hard time catching my breath if I am very hot or go up too many flights of stairs. It has also been increasingly harder to sleep as my hips have been hurting. The baby is much more active and it is funny to watch my belly move sometimes when the baby kicks. We finished our birthing classes last week and I think I've decided I'd like to try to do a waterbirth.

Other than that we have been busy preparing for the baby's arrival. My sister-in-law, Sarah, is letting us use a ton of their baby stuff which we are very thankful about. (I didn't realize how many things babies need:) Last weekend, my cousins threw a surprise baby shower for me in Superior! It was so much fun. This last week we have been busy organizing the baby things and we are getting very excited to meet our little baby in less than three months!!!

23 Weeks (Tomorrow)

So much has happened in the last month I don't even know where to start! Well, I guess I'll start with the baby's approximate statistics. Baby's grown a lot over the last month! The baby is now more than 11 inches long and weighs over a pound. The blood vessels in our baby's lungs are developing to prepare for breathing and the baby can swallow. The baby can also hear loud noises.

The baby's been moving much more often now and I feel lots of kicks throughout the day. Aaron was able to feel the baby for the first time last Tuesday! I love feeling the baby move and am excited Aaron was able to feel the baby as well.

Also, we decided to get an ultrasound so at our last visit at the doctor, we saw our baby! It was so neat and very reassuring to see the baby's heart beating, the spine, and all of the other parts of the baby developing. Baby's heart rate was 146 bpm (the heart rate slowed a lot since the last visit).

We also started our birthing classes last night at St. Joe's. Some of the exercises they had us practice are a little awkward and I am thankful that I am taking the class now rather than when I am bigger. (I felt bad for some of the girls who are due soon.)

I have been feeling, a little tired, but overall really well. I am now fitting really comfortably into maternity clothes and am getting more and more excited to meet our little sweetheart.

19 Weeks

Okay, so I have not been very good at keeping up with weekly updates so far, but I will try to do a better job.

By 19 weeks, our little sweetheart measures approximately 6 inches long (about the length of a small zucchinni) and weighs approximately 8.5 ounces. It's amazing to think that by the time our baby is born, the baby's weight should increase by more than 15 times! Arms and legs are now in the right proportion compared to the rest of the body and the baby's senses are starting to develop.

I have outgrown the majority of my clothes and now am wearing either the next size (or two) up or some of my maternity clothes. I feel like I am drowning in several of my maternity clothes still, but at the rate that I am growing, I don't think it will be long until they fit more comfortably. To date, I have gained a whopping 16-18 pounds and am starting to noticeably show. I was microwaving my lunch last week and a woman I had never met before commented on how cute pregnancy clothes now are and asked when I am due. Another woman who was with her looked at her with a horrified look on her face and loudly whispered, "Are you sure she's pregnant?" I reassured both women that I am pregnant and was very happy that someone I didn't know noticed that I am pregnant and not just gaining weight. I am excited for the time I will be out of the awkward "is she pregnant?" stage but overall am enjoying the second trimester. It is nice to have more energy and not to be sick (the first couple of months were a little tough).

I, too, like Erin have been craving spicy foods, although anything mildly spicy tastes fiery hot. I have also had a lot of cravings for chocolate and brussel sprouts (which is wierd because I never liked brussel sprouts before).

Around week 17, I started having a harder time getting comfortable while sleeping. Thanks to the advice of a very good friend, I bought a Snoogle pillow and have been sleeping much better. The Snoogle pillow is kind of like a body pillow, only it curves so it kind of "hugs" my body. It is awesome!

For the last couple of weeks, I think I might of started feeling the baby move, but I am not sure. The feelings I have been feeling are not like bubbles or flutters like many of the books describe, but rather like small pokes that I feel on different parts of my stomach. I don't feel them everyday, just sometimes. Are there any Moms out there that have any descriptions as to what early movement feels like?

Aaron and I have also had fun looking for clothes and other items for the baby. Aaron thinks the baby is a boy so always looks at the boy clothes when we're out. It's fun to watch him actually enjoy shopping!

Baby Sorenson

I have created this blog to keep all of you posted on the progress of my pregnancy as well as my thoughts and feelings throughout my pregnancy. I am thrilled to be able to share this experience with all of you and appreciate all of the support provided by our family and friends.

Aaron and I found out about our little miracle on June 10th about a half an hour before my sister-in-law, Rachael, came over for dinner. I decided to take a pregnancy test while Aaron was out working in the garden. There was the faintest second pink line and I wasn't sure if I was imaging the line or not so I called Aaron in from the garden. Aaron saw the line, too, but we still weren't sure if it was dark enough to mean anything. We both started crying tears of joy and decided not to say anything to Rachael (sorry Rachael) until we were absolutely certain that I was preganant. So all through dinner we kept sneaking each other giddy smiles hoping Rachael wouldn't catch on that anything was suspicious. Over the next few days, I think I took a total of five pregnancy tests and each one came out positive! By now, we were positive I was pregnant and were both very excited.

After the trip to the doctor, we determined my due date to be February 20, 2008. As of now, I am almost seventeen weeks along. As of week sixteen, the length of the baby is approximately
4.5 inches and the baby weighs about 3.5 ounces, or approximately the size of an avacado. By now, the baby is fully formed with a lot of growing left to do and it is possible to determine if the baby is a boy or a girl (although Aaron and I are not going to find out).
